Fruity Oatmeal

The summer heat and humidity have forced me inside today, so it is a NO GARDENING kind of day.  It is a bit overcast with a discernable heaviness in the air.  Thunderstorms are brewing far in the distance of the hazy sky.  Today being Sunday, I like to spend my time reading, writing, or even catching up on some television shows I recorded on the DVR.  I enjoy this laziness and look forward to it every Sunday.

Breakfast is always fun on Sunday at our house.  When the grandchildren visit I make Nana’s chocolate chip pancakes for them.  My husband likes his pancakes plain with lots of butter and syrup dripping from the edges.  My two Pomeranians, Sugar and Spice each get a small pancake too.

Everyone is happy with pancakes… except me.  I prefer to eat my calories in other ways.  Today, I decided to try something different.  I made my usual oatmeal by cutting up a pear and adding red grapes to the mixture.  Cinnamon sprinkled on top gave a natural sweetness without sugar.

I used a half cup of oatmeal and about a cup of water.  I popped the bowl in the microwave for 3 and half minutes, then stirred thoroughly to blend all the ingredients.  For Weight Watchers Points Plus followers, this comes to about 4 points and is so filling!

I really enjoyed the flavors of the pear and grapes, and the fact that they are cooked gives a different texture to the oatmeal.  In fact, I have made this oatmeal with fresh pineapple and plums and it is spectacular. Experiment with the fruits of summer and see what you can create.

Enjoy your day!

Happy Sunday
