Pixel Prose Challenge–The Storm is Approaching

I know it is Sunday when it is time for Amanda’s Pixel Prose Challenge.  Here is my contribution for this week:

Pensacola Beach 1989

The Storm is approaching

I can hear its roar –

waves smashing against the shore.

Dredging the sands of time in tow,

as mournful winds howl and moan

scattering the rain drops far below.

Deep thunder rumbles

echoes in the dark autumn sky,

white lightening slashes –

communion on high.

A crescendo of nature

in land and sea –

mighty reminders of

the powers that be.

Just the other day it was 26 degrees F. in the morning.  Today it is a balmy 65 degrees F. with a forecast of thunderstorms, high winds, and possible tornadoes.  You never have a dull weather moment in Florida.

Thanks for visiting me on this stormy day.  I can’t wait to see you all again!

About Colleen M. Chesebro

Colleen M. Chesebro is an American Novelist & Poet who loves writing paranormal fantasy and magical realism, cross-genre fiction, syllabic poetry, and creative nonfiction. She loves all things magical which may mean that she could be experiencing her second childhood—or not. That part of her life hasn’t been fully decided yet. A few years ago, a mystical experience led her to renew her passion for writing and storytelling. These days she resides in the fantasy realm of the Faery Writer where she writes the magical poetry and stories that the fairy nymphs whisper to her in her dreams. Colleen won the “Little and Laugh” Flash Fiction Contest sponsored by the Carrot Ranch Literary Community on November 2017, and in 2018, she won first place for the “Twisted Travel” category. Colleen lives in Arizona with her husband. When she is not writing, Colleen enjoys spending time with her husband. She also loves gardening, reading, and crocheting old-fashioned doilies into works of art. Learn more about Colleen on colleenchesebro.com.

  2. We always think that our weather in the U.K is unpredictable, but we don’t often get the extremes that Florida offers! You bring it to life with your words and picture. 😃

  3. Great poetry, Colleen. Your words just flow and gel so well together. I love the photo to go with it as well.

I hope you are feeling better.

  4. Beautiful photo Colleen.

  5. LOVE your poem Colleen, natures awesome power in prose! The image you chose is perfect and quite haunting!
There is something magical in watching a storm – especially at sea, I don’t blame you for wanting to go out and capture it, but stay safe when it hits hun 🙂 <3

  6. Great poem. And fantastic match to the image…

  7. I especially loved the last four lines of this poem — the “crescendo of nature” is a wonderful metaphor. I agree with the other commenters: image and words work beautifully together.

  8. Very powerful poem, wonderful. I can feel the the force of nature. The picture is great! I love it and shows and expresses what you write about. Congrats!

  9. this is such incredible presentation between your words and images – which turn this composition like a movie!
