Jennifer Nichole Wells One Word Photo Challenge for this week has an interesting color: Eminence!
I love these shades of deep purple and lavender! Some of my favorites!
Purple Phlox from my garden this summer
Here is my plum-colored doily I crocheted this summer.
I had to share the poem by Jenny Joseph, called, “When I am Old,” because it talks about the color “purple.”
When I Am Old
by Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me,
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens,
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickle for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats
and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We will have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised,
When suddenly I am old
and start to wear purple!
Thanks for checking in with me today. I sure enjoyed talking about the color purple!

Beautiful detail in the doily and I love the lighting on the flowers. The poem goes perfectly. Thank you so much for sharing.
Always fun to be part of your challenge. 💜
🙂
I love purple and have loved that poem for a while. Apart from the brandy, I think I’ll happily go with the rest. Love the doily…
Thank you. I ended up making two and framing them. I should reblog my previos post from this summer. 👸
Your phlox and doily are beautiful. I loved the poem. I had to chuckle. No, I’m not there yet, and my children pray I never get there.
Me either! But I do love the color purple 👼
Purple is my fave colour Colleen, lovely poem to go with it too! 🙂
I love it too Amanda. <3
Purple…the color of royalty and elegance. We are never too old for that. ☺
So true! <3
Your purples are vibrant. I love that poem!! I had a copy of it framed and hung on my wall as an anthem to aging. 🙂
Thanks. 💜
The colour purple is my favourite too – and I love the doily you have made 🙂
Thanks Colline. I made two and framed then. I have that deep plum color in my bedroom.
Love the idea of framing them 🙂
Great photos, the doily is beautiful! I love the poem you shared too – it pretty much summed up what I’m looking forward to. It’s like “I’m here world, ready or not!”
Ha ha I am not old yet (I will be saying that at 90!) I do love purple. 💜
Absolutely gorgeous purples 💖
Thank you. 💜
