Welcome to Fairy Swamp, the inspiration for my book, The Heart Stone Chronicles – The Swamp Fairy.
While I am away on vacation, I thought it would be a great time to share some photos and video from 2015 so you can see where my inspiration came from.
We had quite the storms in Florida and many of these photos share the effects of one storm in particular.
Below, you will see seagulls who have come to the fields surrounding the swamp to eat. The torrential rains actually drown the bugs. What a feast!
Down the road, another neighbor’s horses were out early drinking from the puddles that formed miniature ponds overnight.
Fairy Swamp was wet and wonderful that morning. The rains brought much-needed relief to the fairy population.
Water filled the slough. The sounds of bullfrogs croaking in deep bass voices filled the air.
Bugs swam and darted below in the murky depths of the black water.
The brilliant greens beckoned to me. It was only a month ago, the trees were still naked.
Here is an amateur video I took of Fairy Swamp. Can’t you just imagine the swamp fairy hovering in the foggy air?

This part of northwest Florida is still rural. I really like that about it. A half hour away on the freeway and you have the beach. It is what attracted us to the area. Glad you enjoyed the tour. <3
So wonderful to see and hear Fairy Swamp in action, Colleen. Sounds like it has woken up for the rest of the Spring and Summer now. Glad they had plenty of water from all that rain. Should keep them going for the rest of the year hopefully. Did you see any fairy boats?
We are enjoying an early British Summer here. In fact it has been summer for nearly three weeks now (well it has felt like it). Won’t last of course, and we are coming down with a bump from Friday when rain arrives with us.
Hugh, it has been un-naturally warm here too. We went from cold right into summer! No spring. Everywhere I look the trees and bushes are blooming. Wild honeysuckle is blooming and filling the air with its lovely perfume. Enjoy your spring as long as you can. Soon summer will be there in all its glory. I remember summer in England as being like Spring is here in Florida. Have a fabulous day Hugh. I am thinking about you. <3
Thank you for even sharing a video, Colleen! I loved the sounds. What an impressive scenery! I totally understand your excitement. Also I love the pictures. It looks so magical after the heavy rain.
Colleen, wonderful to see the Fairy Swamp alive and thriving. Spring does have it’s role in watering everything. Love your descriptive words. Spring here in SoCal is not as spectacular. Warmer weather, buds and sprigs on the orange tree, and more birds singing, but not a drastic seasonal difference. Christine
I love your fairy swamp. Nature has a way of giving us surprises. Our spring here just popped out of nowhere and now everything is blooming and the trees are greening out. I will tell you spring is my favorite time of year, but then when summer comes, or fall, or winter, those will be my favorite. you have seagulls, we have geese and ducks. The geese have become especially feisty as it is their nesting time.
How beautiful Michelle. We too, went from cold right into really warm. I like all the seasons also. Spring is my favorite time. I just love all the renewal. 💖😊
