Obsessive-compulsive school mum, Skye, is a lonely elite spy, who is running from her past whilst trying to protect the future of her child. She tries hard to fit in with the other parents at her son’s new school, but the only person who accepts her unconventional way of life is new mother, Thea.

Thea is feeling harassed by her sister and bored with her life, but she suspects that there is something strange about the new school mum, Skye. Thea has secrets of her own and, although the two become unlikely friends, she hesitates to tell Skye about the father of her own child.

Zack’s new business is growing faster than he could have dreamed but, suddenly, he finds himself the owner of a crumbling estate on the edge of a pretty village, and a single parent to a very demanding child. Could he make a go of things and give his daughter the life she deserved?

When three lives collide, it appears that only one of them is who they seem to be, and you never know who the person next to you in the school playground really is.

“Ninja School Mum,” is not my usual genre, but I stepped out of my safe zone and gave this book a read. I am so glad that I did. The story brought me back to the years I lived in the U.K. with stunning clarity. I loved the British slang and the colloquialisms which gave this story so much of its charm.

Both of the female characters drew me into the novel. Skye and Thea are captivating women at different stages in their lives who reveal to the reader their strengths and weaknesses. I couldn’t help liking these women. For me, Skye was the most remarkable. She is portrayed with just the right blend of toughness mixed with compassion.

Skye is a widow who moves to town with her son, looking for a fresh beginning. There she meets, Thea, another single mom with a baby. The women hit it off, immediately recognizing trouble with the “mum scrum,” a group of snotty mums whom I swear must exist at every school in the world. You know what I mean, we’ve all met them.

Skye’s son Leo, starts school and immediately becomes a target of the class bully, named Miles. Skye takes matters into her own hands and decides to teach Leo how to defend himself. Before she knows it, Leo’s class shows up looking for the same training to dodge Miles and his cruel ways, including the impressive owner of the estate where Skye’s cottage is located.

The plot deepens and of course, a budding romance takes shape. Yet, there is so much more going on as Skye and Thea are forced to reveal their pasts. Not everything is as it appears which results in a host of delightful twists and turns.

Lizzie Chantree, as a new author for me, delivered a fun and entertaining read that kept me reading long into the night. ❤

    1. LOL! I so remember my time living in England. I liked that the conversations between the women seemed so real. I only read for enjoyment so I’m always thrilled when I get a few hours of living through the lives of different characters, especially when they are unusual. There are very few books I don’t enjoy… which reminds me, I should read some of your’s! I’ve had you on my TBR list for some time. I’m sure you weren’t mean. You don’t come across like that! ❤

      1. I’ve heard of that happening. The editor’s critical eye can be a blessing and a curse. 😀 Well, sometimes you just have to take a deep breath and not look at what you’re reading in any other way but for the sake of pure enjoyment. You deserve some rest and relaxation too. ❤
