In honor of this event, I wrote a double Tanka to celebrate the power of women!

Goddesses Unite

Goddesses Unite!
Call out your superpowers.
Be invincible,
ignite your intuition,
brain power, and inner strength.

Stop the secrecy—
Speak, and have your voices heard.
Together we change
from victims of violence
into heroines of courage.

About Colleen M. Chesebro

Colleen M. Chesebro is an American Novelist & Poet who loves writing paranormal fantasy and magical realism, cross-genre fiction, syllabic poetry, and creative nonfiction. She loves all things magical which may mean that she could be experiencing her second childhood—or not. That part of her life hasn’t been fully decided yet. A few years ago, a mystical experience led her to renew her passion for writing and storytelling. These days she resides in the fantasy realm of the Faery Writer where she writes the magical poetry and stories that the fairy nymphs whisper to her in her dreams. Colleen won the “Little and Laugh” Flash Fiction Contest sponsored by the Carrot Ranch Literary Community on November 2017, and in 2018, she won first place for the “Twisted Travel” category. Colleen lives in Arizona with her husband. When she is not writing, Colleen enjoys spending time with her husband. She also loves gardening, reading, and crocheting old-fashioned doilies into works of art. Learn more about Colleen on colleenchesebro.com.

  1. Hi Colleen! Wow! Very inspiring and empowering double Tanka. I LOVED it! We also need better laws in place to help and protect victims of Domestic Violence. Too many times these victims have spoken out only to be brushed aside and that could only make their situation worse. Thanks for creating awareness, my friend. <3 xx

Colleen has written an amazing Double Tanka in response to the “Authors Against Domestic Violence ~ Break the Silence” which will be held today from 5PM-10PM ET. The link is in the body of Colleen’s post.

  9. I like that, heroines of courage. <3
I'd say have fun at the party but with the subject matter that may not be appropriate. Instead, I'll say, much success!

  10. Good job, Colleen! As you know, I’ve written several books about violence against women (and children and men)–not only domestic violence, but all types of sexual assault. This sounds like a great event.
So, here’s another tanka for you. 🙂

    Words can inspire,
dare others to dream of light,
    dismiss the shadows
    if you can, discover strength,
it is there inside you now

  11. Outstanding poem, Colleen.

  12. What a fabulous and empowering tanka Sis. Wonderful post. Can’t wait <3
