In the Author’s Words:

“Gathering Water”

Book One
Growing up as a foster kid, there’s plenty Della Doe doesn’t know—like who her parents were and what her real name is.

On the day she ages out of the system, Della knows her constrained life will be forever changed, but she didn’t know one thin folder would be the catalyst.

Armed with her mother’s name and a tendril of hope, Della travels across country to claim an inheritance far larger than the sound-side home with her name on the deed. As she struggles to adapt to a new life, Della is pulled into an unimaginable world — one on the brink of war — and it will take everything she has not drown in a destiny she didn’t choose.

“Tempering Earth”

Book Two
After discovering her true identity and coming to terms with an unimaginable heritage, Della Doe Deare finally thinks she has things figured out. She is learning the ropes of both her human, and non-human responsibilities; ones which will soon include leading an army, and may one day mean ruling a people. As the sole person able to control all five elements, she will have the power to protect everyone that she loves–and destroy anything that threatens them. But first, she has to survive the Elfennol training.

When an enemy with a reputation for torture sets his murderous sights on Della, she must submerge herself further into the Elfennol world, explore the other half of her inheritance, and move toward a destiny too large for mortal shoulders.

But not everything is as it appears; not all Clades are her enemies and the Elfennol aren’t as pure as they let on. When Della finds friendship—and protection—in the form of a troubled boy born on the wrong side of an endless war, she discovers that this new world operates only in shades of gray and the only difference between good and evil is which side you’re fighting for.

“Igniting Spirit”

Book Three
Della Deare spent most of her life unable to rely on anyone but herself. Until she discovered a family she never knew and a destiny she never expected.

Now, her cousin is in danger and Della will do anything she can to save him, even if that means betraying everything she’s been taught. She knows the Clades—her enemies—are the only people who can help, but they want something from her first—Protection.

There’s a different evil afoot, larger than anyone had anticipated, and to stop it the Clades and Elfennol need to band together. Della must rely on old enemies, new friends, and the dark power that Ezra has inherited before his father unleashes destruction on our world.

Well, here I am with another review of a fantasy series that I absolutely could not put down! Do you love YA fantasy? If so, stay tuned, because this was an excellent series!

Many years ago, I was a foster child. Maybe that’s why I felt an immediate connection to the protagonist, Della Doe Deare, who doesn’t know her parents. Her mother died after Della’s birth and no one knows the identity of her father. Now, she just wants to get on with her life.

On her 18th birthday, Della’s social worker presents her with the information that will change her life forever. Della learns that she has family alive on her mother’s side. She also learns that her mother left her a house along with a decent amount of money.

Della flies cross country to meet this family where she is welcomed into the fold. Difficult times lay ahead for her when she realizes that some in the family knew of her existence, but did nothing to assist her all those years she was alone. Can she overcome her bitterness?

It is when Della begins repairs on the house her mother left her that she experiences strange supernatural abilities. Eventually, Della comes to realize that she’s inherited these gifts from her family.

In the first book, this special skill is called “gathering water.” Della finds she can absorb the energy from water and store it for her own use. In book two, she learns to temper earth energy which leads to the third book, where she deals with the ability to ignite spirit!

Intrigued? So, was I. The entire concept of energy control drew me into this series. The characters are realistic and the plot captivated me along to the very end.

Each book delves deeper into Della’s elemental abilities, which increase until she becomes a force to be reckoned with. Along the way, she meets her father, learns of her destiny, and meets the love of her life. For me, this series was the perfect YA fantasy read! And don’t forget… the first novel is FREE!

About the Author

A Tidewater girl born and bred, Regan Claire’s first friend and love was the Atlantic. Growing up being told legends about pirates and American Natives common in coastal VA and NC, coupled with being an only child, did wonders for her imagination; she’s had one foot in fantasy-land ever since, a trait her closest friends heroically endure (and one she secretly hopes her two daughters have inherited).

She moved inland to Nashville when she was entering tweenhood, and not a day goes by that she doesn’t miss her childhood playmate and it’s crashing waves. Nashville has her perks though, and Regan’s proud to be raising her children in Music City. She loves fairy tales, teen movies, and is constantly late.
