Welcome to the Tanka Tuesday Poetry Recap featuring the Poet of the Week and any honorable mention poetry that really caught my eye. If you would like to participate in this challenge, you can learn the rules in the menu item called Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Guidelines.

What a fun week! I enjoyed everyone’s take on the prompt words, “enchant and fly.” Many of you appealed to my inner fey. Thank you. What a delight to read.

Congratulations, and many thanks to all the participants! Please visit the challenge post comments HERE, where you’ll find the links to everyone’s poetry. Stop by and say hello! <3

I will publish the Poet of the Week and Honorable Mention Poets in the 2019 Poet of the Week Anthology, which everyone can grab as a FREE PDF in January 2020.

Each week, I like to highlight a poet who I call the Poet of the Week who has shared an exceptional message or shown impassioned creativity through words or form. Poetry is all about perception. You may not feel the same way about my choice. That’s okay. Perception is different for all of us.

The Poet of the Week

This week, I’ve chosen Annette Rochelle Aben as the Poet of the Week for her Tanka poem featured below.

I loved this Tanka because of the many interpretations the reader could infer from the poet’s words. You can read this poem forward and backward. I also liked that the meaning could go either way: light or dark! You decide.

Her goal every day
To bewitch
And to charm
Effortlessly she would float
As though she had wings

Honorable Mention

My other favorite poem for this week was by Linda Lee Lyberg. The rhythm in this Butterfly-Cinquain reminds me of a butterfly’s fluttering wings, which also complements the shape of the poem. This is a perfect example of showing and not telling.

on whispered breeze
delicate butterfly
enthralled with every jeweled bloom
drunk on each flower’s honeyed wine
fluttering from blossom
to blossom, sweet

Tomorrow’s challenge will be special!
