“The Morrigan,” A Garland #Haiku

The minute I laid eyes on the photo that Linda picked out for our #photoprompt challenge this month, I recognized the dark birds as the harbingers of the great Celtic Queen, the Morrigan. Her fiery strength manifests in the orange glow of the sun as it highlights the arid plains that stretch to infinity. As above, so below.

Over the Halloween (Samhain) holiday last month, I felt the call of this Celtic goddess. If you’re interested, you can read about my experiences HERE & HERE.

I chose a Haiku garland to illustrate how easy it is to link several Haiku together to form a longer poem. These five Haiku convey a powerful message. It’s amazing what calls out to you from a photo.

Are you ready to join in the challenge! Read the post HERE.

“The Morrigan”

Shape-shifting goddess
woman of the fairy mound
divine poetess

From haunted visions
the great queen chooses her own
heed the corvid’s call

acknowledge and learn
as she delves into your soul
to expose your strengths

Her voice, a whisper
or a terrifying wail
sovereignty required

Morrigan of the
raven wing, finder of souls
I accept your gift.

  7. This was so cool! When I saw the title I was intrigued – there’s a character named Morrigan in the Dragon Age video game series. From your poem, I gather there is someone at that gaming studio who’s done a bit of homework! The garland here was also just so badass. Love it.

  8. Quite a narrative! I agree with Kerfe.
