#BookReview – The Heartstone Chronicles

I must share this heartfelt review of The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy written by author and editor, P. C. Zick. This one brought tears to my eyes! ❤

P.C. Zick - Author/Editor

The Heart Stone Chronicles, Book 1 The Swamp FairyColleen Chesebro has made a splash with Book 1 in her Swamp Fairy series, The Heart Stone Chronicles. Not only is it the first book in this series, but it’s her first published novel. And it’s a gem of a story.

All right, puns aside, this novel will fascinate and inspire young women on the cusp of adulthood. Set in the swamps of northwest Florida near Pensacola, Ms. Chesebro uses the setting of the swamp to create a magical story mixed with the reality of being a teen uprooted by the death of a mother and the abdication of a father.

Fortunately, Abigale Forrester, at the age of fourteen, has plenty of people rooting for her from her mother’s best friend in Chicago, where she’s left without either father or mother, and a dear sweet aunt in Florida where Abigale is sent.

It is in the rural setting of Florida where…

The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy ~ Where Magic Comes Alive

(OFFER GOOD IN U.S., CANADA, & U.K. ONLY)

Fourteen-year-old Abigale Forester, recently orphaned and a ward of the State of Illinois moves from Chicago to Florida to live with her aunt, her last living relative. Magnolia Forester becomes her legal Guardian, and together they claim an ancient inheritance; land that belonged to Abby’s mother’s family for generations.

Holding onto the only piece of her mother Abby has left, a calcite pendant and her mother’s most sacred possession, she discovers the truth of her legacy. The pendant is more significant than she could possibly imagine. Forged from a giant mystical heart-shaped stone found on the very swamp land Abby now owns, it holds the power of her ancestors.

But with that power comes greater responsibility, one that pits her against Rafe Cobb, a greedy land developer, who will stop at nothing to own Abby’s swamp land.

As Abby learns to be part of a family again and explores her love of horses with friends, Savanna, Blake, and Cash, the swamp slowly gives up some of its secrets. She is summoned by a primeval nymph, who teaches Abby that her true destiny is to protect the nymphs from evil in an ever-changing modern world.

Can Abby save the swamp and the Naiad Nymph Clan from certain destruction before it is too late?

Welcome to my St. Patrick’s Day celebration!

TODAY’S THE DAY!

You see, I was lucky enough to be named “Colleen,” which means “girl” in Ireland. I have only known two other “Colleen’s” in my life. My name is unusual in America but seems to be gaining popularity.

I have been told that if you are named Colleen, your parents did it to connect to their Irish roots. I don’t know about that. I was born from parents who were German/Russian immigrants. Nevertheless, I enjoy celebrating the Irish roots of my first name!

Each year on March 17th across the world, we join together as the Irish and the “Irish at heart,” to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The holiday began with the humble beginnings of a religious feast day to honor the patron saint of Ireland.

Now, St. Patrick’s Day has become an international celebration of Irish culture featuring parades, green rivers, green beer, and GREEN TEA! Did I mention shamrocks and green?

Meet Guest Author Colleen Chesebro…

I had the honor of popping in over at Chris’ blog. Have a read and learn a bit about some of the symbolism I used in the Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy. ❤

Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog

Hi, everyone. Many thanks to Chris for his kind invitation to visit and write on his blog. It is much appreciated and a great honor. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Colleen Chesebro. I am a writer, a poet, and a fairy whisperer…

Yes, I bet a few of you are scratching your head wondering what I am talking about – a fairy whisperer? Let me tell you the story of the greatest experience I have ever had.

While on a walk during a warm, foggy morning in November 2014, I had a close encounter of the fairy kind. At the time, we were living in Pensacola, Florida. I still remember the day, as if it has been carved into my memory; something I will never forget.

Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy book review

It is with great pleasure I share this review of The Heart Stone Chronicles: Part 1, The Swamp Fairy,by Author Colleen M. Chesebro.

Colleen ChesebroBut first, let us go back over two years ago, when I first met Colleen in Fall 2014. Her blog was then called “Silver Threading.” She introduced readers to The Swamp Fairy. Here is an excerpt:

“It was a warm morning in November the first time I saw the swamp fairy. The fog curled around the tops of the trees and the autumn breeze smelled of fragrant flowers, even though the early frost had killed all the wild flowers. I inhaled the intoxicating fragrance and peered into the dense foliage near the road. It was a lovely peaceful morning.

I was out for my regular morning walk. I had taken the narrow back road behind Blackberry Ridge where I lived. This morning I could hear…

Today I am even more delighted that Colleen shares the magic and background information of her amazing book here on my blog:

I would like to give many thanks to my friend, Erika Kind, for allowing me time to share about my new book and how to use gems, healing stones, and symbolism in your writing.

At the time, we lived north of Pensacola, Florida in a rural area where most mornings, I walked along a country road for exercise. One foggy November morning, I saw something in the bushes at the side of the road next to the swamp that I will never forget.

I thought I saw a ruby-throated hummingbird, but as I peered inside the bushes, I  I was bearing witness to a magical event. It was something else entirely. I saw a tiny green being which I now believe was a swamp…

Nutsrok

swamp%20fairy%20ad%20with%20birdI was transported back to a joy I haven’t experienced since my earliest enthralling reading days, a fairy-tail so believable I couldn’t forget it.  Colleen’s characterizations of Abby and her animal friends made me feel just as I did as a child, in love with animals and the unseen world.  I can’t recommend this book highly enough.  I felt as though I experienced things I miss from my life now.  I took the liberty of including other reviews.  I am not the only one loving this book.

I’ve just published my first book, and I wanted to share into what genre I categorized The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy. First,  I added it to the children’s fantasy genre for ages ten years and up. After further research, I also added it to the magical realism genre because of the magical aspects of the novel.

I thought I would share a couple of distinct differences between fantasy and magical realism that will help you clarify your own writing.

My First Ever Book Review

I am honored to have Andrew Joyce review my book. The fairies are all abuzz this morning! ❤

Andrew Joyce

2016-07-15-14-48-40

This book was recommended to me by a friend and I must admit that it’s not my usual kind of read. But I thought I’d give it a chance. Right off the bat, I had two favorite characters, Abby and Sam. The author drew me in with good writing, excellent pacing, and an antagonist that had me turning pages at an alarming rate. I had to find out what the dastardly villain would do next!

Our hero, Abby, has a lot to contend with. Her mother has died some time ago and her father has now disappeared. She is shipped off to a new town where she’ll have to start a whole new life. All this in the first few pages. But then her problems really begin.

My only regret is that I don’t have a young daughter to share this with. This is the perfect book for young girls…

The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy Has Been BORN!

The day I have waited for since I was a child has finally arrived! My début novel, The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy has reincarnated itself into the realm of the real world.

You can find the book here on Amazon Kindle, and Amazon Paperback.

I can’t think of a better way to enter the new year!

I must say a special thank you to the blogging community who has supported me the last few years. You all know who you are. I have learned much from the many talented and gifted authors and poets who have guided me through my writing journey. Thank you for your patience and your most meaningful gifts – the gift of your time. ❤

I wrote this story inspired by the natural beauty of Northwestern Florida with an environmental theme – that of the disappearing wetlands. Abby Forester’s story intertwines with that of the fairy nymphs, sworn to protect a sacred plant that holds the key to supporting our human existence.

The story is written for children, “tweens,” and those of us young at heart who believe in the magic found all around us in the natural world. If you look and open your heart to the natural beauty that surrounds you, the vibrations from the horizontal realm will bewitch you with their magic, just as they have inspired my writing.

I hope you will enjoy Abby Forester’s journey. And, if you or that special “tween” in your life would like to experience a bit of their own fairy magic, The calcite fairy stone necklaces, made by IreneDesign2011 are available to order. One look at these magical pendants and you too will want a fairy stone like Abby wears in the novel.

Here’s how to get your own:

The small calcite heart stone pendant is in the photo below. Here is the link to Irene’s Etsy site where you can buy your own jewelry: https://www.etsy.com/listing/480852170/black-silk-necklace-with-silver-wrapped

The large calcite heart stone pendant is shown below. Here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/480852682/black-silk-necklace-with-silver-wrapped

Thank you for being part of my amazing writing journey. I never could have done it without all your support and inspiration!

Many hugs,

~Colleen~

Calcite – The Fairy Stone in the Heart Stone Chronicles

One of my favorite things about writing my first YA novel has been all the collaboration I’ve received from my blogging community. In many ways, The Heart Stone Chronicles: The Swamp Fairy encompasses the theme of family and what it feels like to belong to something bigger than life itself, which is how I feel about this community. Thank you. You have all made me feel like I belong. Abby and I seem to have much in common. 😉

It is with my greatest pleasure that I want to introduce Irene, from IreneDesign2011.com. She is one of the first bloggers that I met when I started on WordPress, and she has become a good friend. If you don’t know Irene, you will want to check out her blog. She is one of the most creative jewelry designers, and I love her work.

As I was writing the Heart Stone Chronicles, I came up with a brilliant idea. You see, in the book, Abby Forester inherits two precious things from her mother: swamp land that has been in her family for generations and a calcite pendant which is a piece of a calcite heart stone found in that very swamp.

Calcite is considered to be a fairy stone, and it is believed that it bestows upon the wearer, the magical properties of prophecy and healing.

My idea was to offer a calcite pendant similar to the one that Abby wears in the book for an affordable price. I knew just the person for the job… Irene. Now, I can’t promise fairy visitations or that you will suddenly possess the ability to prophesize the future – but you never know!

My friend, the amazing author, Eloise DeSousa, created a video (I love her accent) to introduce the pendants. (I told you this was a collaborative event). You can find Eloise here: http://amazon.com/author/eloisedesousahttp://eloisedesousa.wordpress.com.

Even though the book is not available until January 3, 2017, I wanted to share the necklaces with all of you because I think they will make an excellent Christmas present. Here are the links to the two necklaces (small calcite & large calcite):

https://www.etsy.com/listing/480852170/black-silk-necklace-with-silver-wrapped

https://www.etsy.com/listing/480852682/black-silk-necklace-with-silver-wrapped

This would be a fabulous gift for a teen who loves fantasy books and believes in the possibility of magic. In fact, I put these same links in the back of my book so that my readers could have the opportunity to experience the healing properties of calcite, firsthand.

I hope you will check out this unique gift idea. My granddaughters can’t wait to get their own calcite pendants.

to my blog family! ❤
