Full Buck SuperMoon July 12, 2014

The summer skies will light up July 12, 2014 with our third super moon of the year. This will occur July 12 at 11:25 UTC. A supermoon is a new or full moon that occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. That’s a generous definition, which is why there are so many supermoons! What did astronomers call these moons before we called them…

Full Buck Moon 7/12/2014

Do you follow astrology, numerology, or believe the moon and its different phases affects all living things on our planet? Awhile back I wrote about how the Old Farmers Almanac promotes planting your garden during a full moon as it will encourage growth and stability in your plants.  I believe that this energy from the moon, ancient as it seems, does influence man and animals alike. We have all heard the folklore that the full moon brings about suicides, accidents and violent []

DOG days of Summer

My Old Farmer’s Almanac Calendar says we are now in the dog days of summer.  I guess you could say this post is dedicated to all the dogs out there who are dealing with the heat of summer. Here in Pensacola, Florida it is just plain HOT!  We had an unusual respite from the heat and humidity over the Fourth of July weekend with unheard of humidity lows in the 60% range and our temperatures in the high 80’s.  Unusual to say []

Banana Bread Extravaganza!

I swear I just bought those bananas a few days ago!  Nevertheless, there on my counter were bananas that were so ripe they had fallen from the stand they perch on.  Nothing left to do at this point, but make banana bread, my husband’s favorite. Now to be honest, I have a recipe from The Betty Crocker Cookbook that I like to use. However, I have made some changes to adapt the recipe to our needs.  The banana bread recipe is categorized []

Silver Thoughts…

Random thoughts filter through the darkness of my mind like flickers from an old fashioned black and white movie, they sputter, flash and shimmer, and suddenly they are gone. I have noticed that as I continue to age my thought processes have slowed down.  I still have great passionate thoughts, and still write with immense feeling, but all the while I know something has changed.  My thoughts seem to have cooled in their intensity.  The fiery ardor I had for everything in []

Happy Saturday!

My summer garden in the front yard has filled in nicely.  I must say that the addition of mulch has certainly helped my plants retain some of the moisture they need to survive in this hot North Florida sun. The yellow daisies and purple liriope in this photo get HOT sun all day long. This fuchsia colored Cooper’s ice plant is in the particular garden area also.  I love the vibrant color.

Lemons & Peppers OH MY!

Since tomorrow is the Forth of July, I thought I would update my garden status and then take a day off from my blogging duties to celebrate the holiday. These tiny lemons are growing on my lemon tree! The fiery hot Thai peppers are growing and turning crimson! The strawberries are growing larger and spreading.  The hostas, daylilies, and fern are enjoying the heat and humidity.  The centipede grass that I lost in last year’s wicked winter has finally filled in []

Golden Grasses in the Snow

The north wind blows the snow in swirling luminous eddies. Biting cold seeps into the woman’s fruitless body prostate on the ground. Sparkling snow, deep in some places, barren in others, fans over her splayed-out chestnut hair. Spiky golden stalks of grass rubbing in the wind, Scratching, scratching in the snow. ~ ~ ~ What could end the promise of another breath or another day? How could one so young and strong lose the beating of her heart, as a swirling storm []
