“Award-winning author Linda G. Hill brings you the second book in her modern-day Gothic romance series.

Herman Anderson is in love. Thrilled to travel across Canada with her boyfriend as his assistant onstage, she returns to her hometown—the first stop on the Great Dagmaru magic tour. Anticipating a reunion with her brother, instead, she finds her family has moved without a trace.

Stephen Dagmar’s career as a stage magician is taking off. With Herman by his side, his only concern is her father’s dislike for him. But as Herman’s father makes a prediction and resolves to come between them, Stephen’s family curse returns to haunt him.

Darkness descends as the reality of the Dagmar’s incubus bloodline surfaces for the first time in over a generation. Can Herman and Stephen’s relationship survive this new trial? Will Herman survive at all?

A sinful tale of beauty and romance, love and determination, The Magician’s Blood will chill you and leave you breathless for more.”

The Magician’s Blood is the second novel in The Great Dagmaru Series. I’ve read and reviewed the first book, The Magician’s Curse, HERE.

Let me begin by saying that I could not put this book down! Much like the curse that holds Stephen Dagmar under its control, I tore into this book, reading into the wee hours until finally, the book finally released me from its hold! Be prepared, because Canadian author, Linda G. Hill, has created a paranormal romance like no other.

So, let me tell you what this book possession stuff was all about! At the beginning of The Magician’s Blood, the author reminds us that a demon incubus passed from generation to generation and handed down from father to son, has one sole purpose in life – to seduce women and create offspring. Stephen Dagmar has inherited this curse from his father, which ties his family to their servants, the Currys’ involving some creepy relationships in the true gothic sense of the genre.

Fulfilling the demands of the incubus that runs hot through his blood, Stephen has impregnated his servant, Nina, even though his true love is Herman Anderson. Through all of this drama, it is Herman and Stephen’s love story that propels the action forward.

Meanwhile, Stephen has Nina tucked away in the care of his parents awaiting the birth of his first child. Per the curse, the girl must remain a servant to the Dagmar family. Once she gives birth, a hysterectomy must be performed to ensure Nina’s link to the curse is broken.

Many of the characters from the first book return, presenting a more in-depth look into Stephen’s relationship with Margaret, his manager, and the women who once belonged to Stephen’s coven. Herman’s father plays a critical role in this tale leaving some tantalizing clues as to the magical powers that Herman could very well have inherited from him.

Talk about a double edged sword… It is also revealed that Stephen’s ability to perform magic is a byproduct of the curse. Yikes! Now, the question remains, if they find a cure for the curse, will Stephen retain his magical abilities?

This book does contain explicit sexual encounters. Stephen is a cambion, the offspring of an incubus which drives his sexuality into uncontrollable violent urges. Sex magic erupts at almost every twist and turn.

Yet, for all the love that Stephen and Herman share, the reader can’t help but pick up on the darkness that ripples through these pages. The suspense builds up to a breaking point, leaving the reader breathless. The ending was unexpected and explosive!

My advice? Read book one and get to know the characters. Then, grab a copy of this book before the August 10th release date! The author is offering a special pre-order price on The Magician’s Blood. It’s $2.99 now, but it’ll be going up to $4.99 on August 10th.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. (Actually, I begged asked for a copy because I enjoyed the first book so much).

Once upon a time there was a beautiful young woman named Egypt, and she loved sex. Cursed by her mother’s dying declaration, she thinks she is unworthy of love. Locking her feelings inside an impenetrable ice block, she hides behind casual sex. Aided by her Naughty Fairy Godmother, she creates a playlist of rules to live by to avoid a broken heart.

When the ruggedly, sexy businessman, Harper Beckmann enters the restaurant where she is the executive chef, she feels drawn to him in ways she never felt before. When he denies her offer for a casual hookup and offers to take her on a date instead, she is intrigued. Unable to resist his charms, she allows him to break all of her rules, including kissing on the mouth.

Harper has been playing the field since his fiancée left him for his best friend. A romantic at heart, he longs for the love of a good woman. When he meets Egypt, he knows instantly she is just what he needs to cure his aching heart. If he can break down her walls and get her to admit she loves him too, Beckmann may just be the one to break the curse.”

***WARNING: This book contains explicit sexual content and is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18. May contain triggers for those sensitive to sexual abuse. ***

Meet Egypt Wilson. She’s gorgeous and an accomplished chef. Unfortunately, she was the unwilling victim of sexual abuse when she was a teenager. Egypt’s scars run deep. In survival mode, and after her mother convinces her that she is not worthy of love, the young woman creates a list of rules to live by. This includes being promiscuous and not allowing herself to get close to anyone. Brick by brick, Egypt builds a wall to shield the pain of her past. Until one night, when Egypt is at work, the man of her dreams walks into the restaurant and into her heart. In no time, Egypt’s life is changed forever.

Egypt’s ally in this saga is NFG (Naughty Fairy Godmother) who sometimes comes across as the voice of reason and logic. Come on, she’s a fairy godmother, after all. You know she isn’t going to let her girl get into too much trouble! The interjections from NFG are hilarious and well placed. The addition of this character really added to the fantasy elements of the story. I thought NFG was brilliant!

This book is my favorite so far of all that L. Loren has written. It’s classy and sexy. She calls her style of writing LoveRotica. That means each story contains the element of love. The characters in Egyptian Nights are well defined and believable. Erotica is not my chosen genre, but I must challenge you as a reader to spread your own wings and try something different. I really enjoyed this book.

Egyptian Nights is also filled with humor that at times had me laughing out loud. Also, don’t forget, Egypt and Harper’s love affair does read like a fairy tale filled with fantasy elements. Remember, they are consenting adults and in love. The sex did make me blush, even though I don’t consider myself to be a prude by any means. But, that’s me. You’ll have to judge the sex for yourself.

Yet, this intimate peek into Egypt’s psyche plays a roll in the healing process of her coming to grips with her past. It is only through Harper’s love that Egypt finally finds the courage to forgive her past and love herself. In true happily-ever-after fashion, this is a story that ends with a bang! Literally! I told you it was funny!

About the Author

L. Loren is a former call center supervisor currently based in Greenville, SC with her loving and supportive husband. Growing up the youngest of seven in a small town in North Carolina, she embraced her love of reading which helped to develop her imagination. Her desire to write, lay dormant for years until she found the courage to look within and her passion which could no longer be ignored.

I write love stories with an edge of sexy that I like to call LoveRotica. To the rest of the world, they are erotic romance novels. This is adult content, so I have to insist that you’re over 18 years to read them. My stories will feature a strong female protagonist with flaws and challenges. Since I am an African American woman, I will tend to write from that perspective, however, as a creative creature, I reserve the right to change things up a bit.

“Vivacious, witty and feisty, Lynn Sutton is living the life she desires, with the smarts to match and no strings attached. As the successful owner of a luxury travel concierge service, she is building an empire that only a goddess like her can handle. Until one day, life throws the ultimate curve ball when she loses her only sister in a tragic car accident and becomes the sole guardian of her niece and nephew. After years of focusing solely on the twins and her career, Lynn is left with the empty nest syndrome when the twins go off to college.

She decides it’s time to refocus on herself and her love life. And she’s got her sights set on one man…Connor.
Wealthy and intelligent, Connor Wyatt has never found his true love. Trapped in an arranged and loveless marriage, he craves the one thing his wife refuses to give him, a family. When he meets the beautiful aunt of the young man he is mentoring, she immediately awakens his dormant heart and loins. When his marriage falls apart, he renews his friendship with the beautiful and curvy Lynn in the hopes that he can rekindle a fire that has been smoldering within for years. And an unexpected flight layover brings Connor the chance of his lifetime.

The chemistry between the two is undeniable, but outside forces threaten to douse their inferno forever. Will this love connection finally be made? Or is it already too late?”

Lynn and Conner’s love story is told in such a way that it sweeps you off your feet right along with them. Both of the characters are believable and totally likable. Conner’s wife is a real piece of work. Lynn has issues with her best friend that she didn’t even know existed, and her bestie is the kind of woman that doesn’t want to be deterred. Add in some drama from a niece and nephew and you have the ingredients to create a “spicy” love story.

The author, L. Loren, spins a tale filled with ample humor and interesting characters. I loved that Lynn seemed to be starting over in her life after shouldering the responsibility of raising her niece and nephew. Her new love story comes at a time when she is ripe for fresh adventures. The perfect setting for a new romance.

I won’t kid you here. There is explicit sex in this story. Nevertheless, those erotic scenes emphasized Lynn’s feelings for Conner and made their entire love story more credible.

This is L. Loren’s début novel, and there are plans for Lynn and Conner’s love story to continue. The Wanderlynn Experience – Island Adventures, is the title of book two. I can’t wait to find out what happens to Conner and Lynn this time! I know it will be a fun and humor packed adventure.

Book Blurb from the author:

“A painful past. A forbidden romance. Will she choose love and make the ultimate sacrifice?

For Stella Welsch, buying a home and starting her own business has already pushed the boundaries of her strict upbringing. When she meets the sexy and powerful executive, Conrad Adams, Stella knows he’s off limits, but can’t help daydreaming about forbidden romance. As sparks begin to fly, Stella reveals that the relationship could have her cut off from her family and life as she knows it.

After painful memories surface, Stella decides to follow her heart and succumb to the sexy business mogul’s pursuit. But she quickly discovers that her sheltered upbringing hasn’t prepared her for what she is about to face. Her naive knowledge of ‘sex’ is nothing more than foreplay to the sexually experienced Conrad. As her feelings build, Stella must choose between Conrad and her family. Between rebellion and convention.

Stella’s Awakening is the first installment in an erotic romance series that tackles difficult social issues. If you like EL James and Jodi Picoult, you’ll love this intriguing, sexy, and emotional rollercoaster of a book.”

I had no clear idea of what to expect with this novel and began reading with my eyes wide open. Initially, I felt compelled to compare the storyline to Fifty Shades of Grey but that comparison soon dwindled. I was hooked after the first chapter. The writing is well done and handled with flair. However, due to the sexual content, this book is not suitable for younger readers.

The novel is written and set in Sydney, Australia, so the English words are spelled with Australian spelling, and there are many word variations. I enjoyed the differences in language and felt it added to the exotic appeal of the location.

The author, RK Ryde, tells Stella’s story in the first person and I pondered her choice. However, the more I read, the more I began to understand the protagonist, Stella Welsch.

Stella’s story is deeply personal. I realized that telling the story in the first person fostered a deeper connection to her emotions and the inner conflict she was dealing with. I found myself embroiled in her life. I experienced Stella’s life through her eyes and words.

This story is more than just an erotic sexual awakening for a thirty-year-old woman experiencing her first true love. For Stella, it is the realization that everything she was told as a child growing up, and into her adult life could be wrong, or it could be right. That is her dilemma. It is the grappling with the realization that she must choose between the man she loves or the religion and family she also loves deeply. What a conundrum!

For me, Stella’s story emphasized the choices she must make between free will vs. control. I struggled with why Stella’s life was so difficult to deal with when she was a business owner and a successful interior decorator in her own rights. It seemed like she had the courage to pursue her own dreams but only up to a certain point. Her parents certainly did not approve of her life unless it was by their mandated version of how she should live. I just could not imagine living under those circumstances.

As Stella and Conrad’s relationship grew I could see the natural progression of a couple falling in love and wanting to begin their life together. What made this chronicle different from other romantic novels was the levels of control Stella lived under. I could not help wondering that if Stella chooses Conrad’s love wasn’t she trading the control of her parents and religion to be under his control? It was a thought provoking revelation.

The end of the story is powerful and eye-opening. I understand this is the first book in the installment and look forward to finding out just what Stella decides to do with her life. No matter what her choices I know the outcome will be explosive!
