Pixel Prose Challenge–The Storm is Approaching

I know it is Sunday when it is time for Amanda’s Pixel Prose Challenge.  Here is my contribution for this week:

Pensacola Beach 1989

The Storm is approaching

I can hear its roar –

waves smashing against the shore.

Dredging the sands of time in tow,

as mournful winds howl and moan

scattering the rain drops far below.

Deep thunder rumbles

echoes in the dark autumn sky,

white lightening slashes –

communion on high.

A crescendo of nature

in land and sea –

mighty reminders of

the powers that be.

Just the other day it was 26 degrees F. in the morning.  Today it is a balmy 65 degrees F. with a forecast of thunderstorms, high winds, and possible tornadoes.  You never have a dull weather moment in Florida.

Thanks for visiting me on this stormy day.  I can’t wait to see you all again!

Pixel Prose Challenge–Paths

Lanterne poetry is defined by Poetry Soup (this is a great site to post your poetry too by the way) as:

“A type of poem that has one syllable in the first line, two syllables in the second line, three syllables in the third line, four syllables in the fourth line, and one syllable in the fifth line that related to the first word of the poem.

Example
  • 5 line poem
  • each line has a specific number of syllables
    line 1 = 1 syllable
    line 2 = 2 syllables
    line 3 = 3 syllables
    line 4 = 4 syllables
    line 5 = 1 syllable
  • lines do not rhyme
  • poem is based on one sentence or idea”

I came upon this type of poetry today on the blog called, “Friendly Fairy Tales,” and was enthralled by the simplicity of the words. The idea is for the words to form the shape of a lantern (see below).  I could not get the words placed on the photo in the lantern shape because I wanted the path to be the focal point. I will work on this in the future Smile

Anyway, all I could think of was how perfect this would be for Amanda’s Pixel Prose Challenge!

home

I love the brevity of the words and the shape of the word pattern.  I look forward to playing with this poetry in the future.

I took this photo this morning on my walk and was startled to see that a path seemed to lead into the swamp from the way the trees grew.  Very COOL!  The swamp changes drastically in the winter and I had never seen this view before.

Thanks for checking in on me today.  I always enjoy seeing your smiling face!

Pixel Prose Challenge–Autumn’s Last Blush

Amanda, from Unique Art Chic sponsors a weekly challenge that evokes so many feelings from me each time I see her work.  Her awe-inspiring photography along with her prose never fails to amaze me!  You must see what she did this week by clicking here.

My contribution this week suggests that even here the polar vortex is spreading fingers of cold downward toward us in the Florida Panhandle.  This week found my Parlor Maple still blooming, while frost painted the roofs sparkly white.

Parlor Maple Autumn

Many thanks to Amanda for sponsoring this fabulous weekly challenge.

Thanks for visiting me on this Sunday.  I always enjoy seeing each and every one of you!

Pixel Prose Challenge – High Tide

High Tide

My Pixel Prose entry this week is still stuck at the beach.  It is so lovely here in Pensacola, Florida in the autumn that I just can’t let go of the sea and sand.

Come join Amanda of Unique Art Chic weekly for her Pixel Prose Challenge where we combine poetry, Haiku, Tanka, etc. with our photography.  Its like traveling with entertainment!  I used Fotoflexer which is an easy program to use.  You upload your own photo and add your poetry to it with a text box.  Picmonkey is another program that is free to use.

Amanda says this challenge is:

A unique weekly challenge designed to inspire creativity from both photographers and writers. Everyone is welcome.

The concept is very simple: Use the photograph that most inspires you – then add your prose. For the purpose of this challenge, the prose can consist of any form of text. Word art, quotes, poetry, haiku, rhyme, short fiction etc.

Choose your own theme – this will free you up to use your creativity to its fullest – with the photograph you feel most inspired by. Create with your photography, edit your photographs as much or as little as you want – you decide!

Providing you have added words with your image, there is no reason why you can’t enter the challenge from other forms of social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Flickr etc. Note: You will need the URL of the actual image and not your account.

I will write a new post on Sundays approx 12 pm GMT, which will announce the weekly challenge as open. Entries can be linked to my post anytime until the following Sunday.

Join in the fun!

Thanks for visiting.  I look forward to seeing you all!

An Autumn Day

2014-10-04 07.04.34

Crisp autumn mornings spent drinking coffee and watching the steam rise from your cup swirling, like thoughts in a cluttered mind.

In the afternoon, the sky wears a vivid blue mantle on its shoulders reflecting sunlight into the cloudless skies radiating warmth to those far below.

Leaves with glowing colors of amber, red, and ginger orange sprinkle the green grass like jewels in a crown, as the late afternoon sun slips over the houses of Blackberry Ridge.

A misty coolness creeps softly into the evenings, as bonfires are lit to warm our hands and hearts.

At dusk, the doves call their last goodbyes to the gathering darkness at the tree line.

Twilight settles, enveloping all in the deep blackness of night.

Day is done.

Pixel Prose Challenge–Montana Autumn

048

Fall stealthily creeps from the base of the mountains

to the tips of the trees with a frosty morning greeting.

The air, crisper now, sparkles in the dew as

fluffy clouds stretch thinly over the blue.

Deepening shadows broaden and

distend, lengthening into

Autumnal snows.

Pixel Prose Challenge–Morning Fog

Foggy Morning

“Morning Fog,” is my contribution for this week’s Unique Art Chic’s weekly challenge entitled, “Pixel Prose Challenge.”

The fog rolls in thick in the morning during this extremely humid period in Pensacola, Florida.  This is a view of the field behind our house where two neighbor horses graze.  By the afternoon hours we will have thunderstorms dump the collected moisture from the Gulf of Mexico upon us.  Late next week we hope to cool off into the high 80’s.  Fall is slowly approaching.
