*I was given a copy of this book by the author as a gift in exchange for an honest review, which follows.*
IN THE AUTHOR’S WORDS:
“The bad news? Morgan Daniel’s wolf is out of control. The good news? There’s a treatment. She just has to get a potion from a lizard shifter witch–without looking into the witch’s eyes. Easy, right? But when the witch puts a spell on her younger brother, Morgan has to do the witch’s bidding to save him.
Fortunately, Morgan isn’t alone. She has Jackson to lean on, a few witches coming into their powers, a secret warlock, and the always mysterious Chief Okema. What could possibly go wrong?”
The second installment of the Secret Warrior Series finds Morgan learning to deal with her newfound werewolf abilities and the realization that what has happened to her is larger than life. Her responsibilities are enormous, and she must become the leader of the pack along with Jackson, her soul mate.
I must note that it is best to read Book One, The Hunter’s Moon, (click the link to read my review) first because the author delves right into the action and you will not want to miss any of this exciting tale.
As Morgan’s body gets used to the change, she is overcome by a series disease called “wandering wolf.” If the wolf side of her takes over entirely without the human aspect of her personality remaining, Morgan will have succumbed to the disease and would no longer be of any use to the wolf pack or the Wapicoli tribe.
However, the cure comes with a hefty price. Morgan must find Lilith, the lizard witch to get the elixir that will cure her. While there, Morgan’s younger brother Jimmy, runs afoul of Lilith. She casts a spell on him that now also needs a cure, or by the next full moon, he will walk off a cliff to his death. To break the lizard witch’s spell, Morgan is blackmailed into getting what Lilith desires most.
This book also develops the characters in greater depth, and the reader is drawn into Morgan and Jackson’s burgeoning love for each other. Also, the tribe bonds with a common goal of saving Jimmy from his curse. At the same time, many alliances, good and bad, are made in preparation for the coming war between the Panteras and the wolf pack.
If you enjoy your fantasy laced with a bit of the paranormal, you will love this book and the entire series. Mysterious ghostly beings, shapeshifters, witchcraft, ancient Native American creatures, and even aliens from other planets all coalesce around a story steeped in age-old American history and ancient folklore. I was in fantasy reading heaven!
I am a huge fan of tales of the supernatural, and this was by far one of the best written and most entertaining young adult tales I have read. I am loving this series! The writing was sharp and clear with descriptions that you could see and feel. What more could you ask for?

About the Author
Married to my high school sweetheart, I live on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia surrounded by my children, grandbabies, and assorted animals. An avid gardener, my love of herbs and heirloom plants figures into my work. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans and the people who journeyed here from far beyond her borders are at the heart of my inspiration. In addition to American settings, I also write historical and time travel romances set in the British Isles, YA fantasy romance, and nonfiction about gardening, herbal lore, and country life.
From the Author:
“The Secret Warrior Series was inspired by my love of history, fantasy, and fascination with the mountain people and Native Americans. Living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia surrounded by mountains veiled in mist and mystery lends itself well to creating the characters and setting for The Hunter’s Moon, and the stories that will follow as the series unfolds. Some of the characters and creatures are based on lore I’ve learned over the years. Others appeared to me, as characters have a way of doing.”
